This sudden change, reported by state media on Tuesday, affects the teaching of all foreign languages, including English and Arabic.
The Iranian Education Ministry says that the ban is aimed at preserving the Iranian identity during the crucial early years of a child’s development. The shift follows a 2018 ban on English teaching in primary schools.
This language policy change also coincides with a recent decision to prohibit Iranian or dual national students from attending international schools, resulting in a drastic reduction in student numbers at these institutions.
