He said that he has received “signals” that Ukraine will not be receiving an invitation to join the bloc.
However, NATO’s secretary general Jens Stoltenberg has maintained that natto will “extend an invitation to Ukraine when allies agree, and conditions are met”. Zelensky has accused NATO of leaving a window of opportunity to bargain Ukraine’s membership in NATO in negotiations with Russia.
He also criticized some allies’ attitudes, saying that it is not a thoughtful and fair approach and that Ukraine deserves respect and could decide on its own future rightful place in the bloc. It remains to be seen whether Ukraine will receive an invitation to the NATO summit which is taking place right now in Lithuania.
