This settlement, the largest of its kind, will be distributed as back pay to drivers who were deprived of their dues, along with mandatory paid sick leave and other benefits.
This news comes as a relief to drivers, especially those from immigrant communities, who rely heavily on these jobs for their livelihood. The settlement also introduces an “earnings floor,” ensuring all drivers in the state are guaranteed a minimum wage.
Drivers outside New York City will earn at least 26 dollars per hour, while those in the city are already protected by minimum pay regulations. In addition to this, drivers will now be given guaranteed paid sick leave, earning one hour of sick pay for every 30 hours worked, capped at 56 hours per year.
