People across seven northern European countries are experiencing a significant decrease in social isolation, thanks to the innovative ‘I2I’ project.
This has significant ramifications on individuals’ physical, mental, and emotional health especially the elderly and the youth. For example, in Norway, senior citizens now have access to a minibus service for appointments and social activities, enhancing their mobility and reducing feelings of loneliness. In addition to transportation, the use of technology has also been a key factor in this initiative. A 94-year-old resident living alone was provided with a screen that allowed her family to keep in touch with her without any need for her to operate the device. This technology has eased communication, making it less challenging for her and her family.
A volunteer center, mostly managed by volunteers, provides meals and organizes various activities aimed at promoting social inclusion and enhancing wellbeing. With initiatives like these, the project is a testament to the power of community and innovation in addressing loneliness and isolation.
