Protestors are not happy about the arrest of Fernando Camacho the governor of the capital of Bolivia’s largest province.
And now there are reports that rioters have set fire to the prosecutor’s office- thankfully no one was hurt.
Camacho was detained on Wednesday afternoon. Authorities reportedly had a warrant citing his involvement in the 20-19 coup that overthrew president Eva Morales. A video making rounds on social media show heavily armed police surrounding his vehicle and the governor handcuffed on the ground.
But there are some red flags.
The governor’s office is even calling it “kidnapping”. The Santa Cruz provincial government quickly denounced the arrest as an “absolutely irregular police operation,” claiming Camacho had been taken to “an unknown location”. Camacho’s sympathizers have set up roadblocks and stormed airports even entering several airplanes to check if the governor was on board.
Camacho became its governor in May20-21, after getting just 14-percent of the vote in the 20-20 presidential race.
