Citizens are reacting to accusations made by prime minister Nicol Pacinian (ashine) of a possible coup.
Online video reveals the police department’s active role in containing the crowd, employing stun grenades and smoke or tear gas, resulting in minor injuries among protesters. These protests are a response to Azerbaijan’s so-called “counterterrorism measures” in the Armenia populated province of Nagorno-Karabakh.
This move has sparked outrage among many Armenians, with protesters accusing the prime minister of treason for his previous willingness to recognize Azerbaijan’s sovereignty over Nagorno-Karabakh. Local residents are deeply concerned as Nagorno-Karabakh’s capital is being hit by artillery fire and calls for a ceasefire by provincial officials are ignored.
