A big moment this week as Russian president Vladimir Putin and Chinese president Xi Jinping met in person.
The two seem to have some things in common. Putin’s relations with the west continue to unravel over the war on Ukraine. And China’s military harassment of Taiwan is set to put Xi on a collision course with united states and European allies.
The pair had last met in February, promising that the Russia China relationship would be “without limits”- but a lot has happened since then. During the meeting, xi called Putin his “old friend”, still the world leaders sat a distance from each other- on opposite sides of two long, rounded tables.
Xi’s surprising focused on bringing stability and positivity to a world in disarray.
“China is willing to work with Russia to play a leading role in demonstrating the responsibility of major powers and to instill stability and positive energy into a world in turmoil”.
