The proposal also includes the demolition of a historic baseball stadium and the replacement of a rugby field with artificial grass. The protesters are primarily concerned with the 150 ginkgo trees on a century old promenade that could be affected by the construction. Critics argue that these changes would not only destroy a piece of Tokyo’s history but also significantly impact local residents’ access to green spaces.
