The Australian high court has now ruled that Qantas illegally replaced these employees with contractors.
Despite the commercial reasoning behind the decision, the court emphasized that it negatively impacted the employees’ rights. Although Qantas expressed regret for the personal impact caused by the decision, the company has not been directed to reinstate the workers.
The controversy continues with claims that Qantas sold eight thousand tickets for flights already cancelled in 2022, leading to further public displeasure.
Consequently, Qanta’s former CEO, Alan Joyce, made the decision to step down two months early.
