A massive crowd of protesters marched through the center of Paris on Saturday demanding that France radically change its stance on NATO and the EU.
The march was organized by the right-wing party called “the patriots” and dubbed “the national meeting of resistance.” According to organizers, thousands and thousands of people showed up. Some were holding signs and banners that read phrases like “resistance” and “Frexit” – a reference to a demand that France leaves the EU.
Many protesters were also waving the national flag. They demanded the removal of French president Emmanuel Macron as they marched near the parliament building.
The crowd was also chanting things like “let’s get out of NATO!”
The demonstrators denounced NATO “warmongering,” as well as economic “disruption” and “energy and health restrictions,” which are linked to the sanctions the e-u imposed on Russia over the conflict in Ukraine.
