The move follows a state investigation that revealed numerous instances of illegal activities, including officials enriching themselves and others unlawfully aiding draft eligible men to leave the country during the ongoing conflict with Russia.
The probe, which was initiated after a corruption scandal in a recruitment office in Odessa region, has so far led to the opening of 112 criminal cases. Zelensky announced that the fired officials would be replaced by recent war veterans and wounded soldiers, emphasizing that the army should be managed by those who understand the consequences of war.
According to Zelensky, any dismissed officers not under investigation are expected to join the warfront if they wish to maintain their dignity and rank.
This decision is part of Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to tackle corruption as the country combats Russia’s full-scale invasion and seeks to join the European union.
