Opposition supporters claim the elections were rigged, sparking widespread protests.
These violent demonstrations have resulted in several injuries and arrests, negatively impacting the lives of citizens. Nine civilians and one police officer were hurt, while 70 people were arrested across various cities. Mozambique’s public integrity center has confirmed the death of a young man and reported that police had shot two people.
A police officer was also killed by an angry mob. Concerns over the use of force by the police have been expressed by amnesty international, which has called for an investigation into the death of a 16-year-old boy during an earlier protest.
