The plan, which has been in operation since spring 2022, offered up households up to 500 Pounds (or around 600 Dollars) per month to host Ukrainian families.
But now, the National Audit Office warns that with the impending expiration of the homes for Ukraine plan in march, over 130 thousand beneficiaries might lose their current residences. However, the funding ends a year prior to the expiration of the three-year visas awarded to the Ukrainians.
As of august 2023, nearly 5 thousand Ukrainian households were either homeless or at risk in England alone. With a third of councils failing to provide homelessness data, the numbers could be higher.
