Just last week, we told you the current prime minister of New Zealand, Jacinda Ardern, was abruptly leaving and it seems the deep state wasted no time finding her replacement.
New Zealand’s former minister for COVID, Chris Hipkins, will become the next prime minister. Hipkins got the unanimous support of legislators from the ruling labour party on Sunday. He will have less than nine months before contesting a tough general election.
Opinion polls have indicated his party is trailing its conservative opposition.
Known as “chippy”, Hopkins built a reputation for competence in tackling COVID and was a trouble-shooter for Ardern when other cabinet ministers were struggling.
In a recent clip of Hipkins, he is talked about how his country will tackle COVID in the coming year, and he said, he will “hunt down” his fellow new Zealanders.
Hipkins was first elected to parliament in 2008. He became a household name fronting the government’s response to the so-called pandemic.
He was appointed health minister in July 2020 before becoming the covid response minister at the end of the year.
