The announcement followed a largescale riot involving Eritrean migrants in Tel Aviv.
Netanyahu’s government currently labels most African asylum seekers as “Illegal Infiltrators”, with an estimated 25 thousand, including 18 thousand from Eritrea, residing in the country.
Many have entered Israel illegally via Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula. The intended border wall is an expansion of an existing 21-mile barrier between southern Israel and Jordan. This decision comes as part of Netanyahu’s commitment to “Protect our country” and impose “harsh measures” against those involved in the recent rioting.
