The changes under consideration allow for fulltime employees to take on part-time second jobs, potentially working up to 13 hours per day, and enable a six-day working week.
Also, within the first year of employment, the bill allows employers to dismiss employees without prior notice or compensation, unless stated otherwise. The proposed amendment also sets a fine of up to 10 thousand five hundred Euros or almost 11 thousand two hundred Dollars against employers who fail to acknowledge extensions in work hours or shifts.
Workers fear that the changes could lead to long working hours, delayed wage increases, and job insecurity. As a result of the protest, public services across the nation were disrupted, with public transport offering limited services and hospitals operating with only emergency staff.
