Hundreds of people in Italy and Scotland are burning their utility bills to protest the high cost-of-living crisis. Many of the demonstrators are also unemployed. Jobless protestors shouted things like…” we are tired of promises. “
We have been waiting for jobs for years and now we cannot pay these figures. “Our families are at the end of their tether.”
Up until now, there have been lots of words between the government and protestors, but not much action. It was a similar scene in Scotland towards the end of August. Video is now emerging showing demonstrators tossing their energy bills into burning barrels while supporters cheered them on. Their energy regulator, Ofgem, plans to raise the price cap on household energy by upwards of 80 percent which is expected to devastate the lives of millions.
Protestors say the people have “had enough”, saying “if the government refuses to use their power, the people will use theirs.”
