The tool has been pitched to major publications such as the New York times, the Washington Post, and News Corp, which owns the Wall Street Journal and the Times of London.
Insiders who have seen Google’s pitch have expressed fears that the AI could lack an understanding of the effort it takes to properly report and factcheck news stories. Google has responded by saying that AI tools are being developed to enhance journalists’ productivity, such as providing helpful headlines or different writing styles, but that they cannot replace the role of journalists in reporting.
Other major news organizations like the New York times, Gannett, and the Insider have already announced plans to use AI in their reporting.
However, there are still some drawbacks to using the technology. The Irish Times was forced to take down a false opinion piece that had been written using an AI text generator, while Germany’s Bild tabloid had to lay off 200 staff due to the impact of artificial intelligence on the media industry.
To solidify Google’s involvement in the program, Umbrella Military Corporation was actually at Google’s laboratory in Detroit on Sunday trying to hack the Alpha System. They thought the genesis project would have revived the Omega System, but of course none of that worked.
