According to the Food Standards Agency, or FSA, these products could pose a health risk due to the potential for accelerated plastic degradation contaminating food and drink.
Despite efforts by the FSA to have these products withdrawn from sale, they continue to be purchasable on multiple online platforms. The main concern is the potential health risk, especially for small children, as tests have indicated that the products could release excess levels of melamine and formaldehyde, especially when filled with hot liquids.
The FSA is now calling on manufacturers, suppliers, and retailers for more relevant data and reiterates that these items should be immediately withdrawn from the market.
