The law, which goes into effect January 1st, empowers the California highway patrol to activate an alert similar to amber alert, but specifically for missing black individuals aged between 12 and 25.
The Ebony Alert ensures that information about missing persons is distributed widely through highway signs and various media platforms including radio, TV, and social media. Cases involving black individuals often receive less media attention and remain open for longer periods even though they total 38 percent of all missing people.
The new legislation signifies a hope for the families of missing black individuals for their cases to receive the necessary resources and attention.
