The shallow 5-point-6 magnitude quake hit Indonesia’s west java area, killing at least 268 people, many of them children, with 151 still missing.
Many of the victims were children who had been at school at the time the quake hit. Rescue workers are still searching for survivors in the rubble of destroyed buildings. At least one village was buried under a landslide. An additional one thousand people have been injured, 58-thousand displaced and 22-thousand houses damaged. The affected area is spread out- which is a bit of a challenge. Also, many roads to local villages are damaged making travel difficult.
