The 90-minute film, titled “No Way Back: The reality of gender affirmative care” was due to be screened at AMC venues in the US starting June 21st.
It featured interviews with five individuals who discussed their experiences of gender dysphoria and medical transitioning in adolescence or adulthood, as well as insights from 12 experts in mental health, endocrinology, and pediatrics, including an Oxford professor. According to the film’s press release the show is produced by “Lifelong California democrats and LGBT Activists”, and takes an unbiased look at gender affirmative medical practices.
However, shortly after the announcement of its premiere, The Queer Trans Project, a black and transl-ed organization which aims to provide resources to LGBTIQQ+ people protested the screening and demanded its cancellation.
On June 17th, an announcement was made that the documentary had been pulled from AMC theaters nationwide.
