More than two hundred structures have been damaged or destroyed by a wildfire in Nova Scotia, most of these structures are single-family homes.
At an afternoon briefing, Cathie Steeves of the Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources said crews were working hard to put out the fire and protect the community. The local mayor asked for patience from the 16,400 residents who are waiting for information about their properties, stating it would take “considerable time” to compile this data.
Premier Tim Houston has declared a provincewide ban on all travel and activity within Nova Scotia’s forests, including hiking, fishing, camping, and off-road vehicle use. He warned people to stay out of the woods. Meanwhile, police had been monitoring the affected communities for thefts and suspicious activities, but so far, none have been reported. People are advised not to try and return to their homes.
