Under the bill, the convict is obligated to make payments until the child’s 18th birthday or high school graduation.
The courts will determine the payment amount, considering the child’s financial needs and the defendant’s resources. Payments will be directed to the surviving parent, guardian, or the department of family and protective services, if applicable.
In cases of defendant’s incarceration, payments will resume a year following release, with all arrears owed, regardless of imprisonment status.
